Favourite albums of 2015

I thought I'd post a little something about the 2015 albums I listened to the most this year. Honestly, I looked up the stats on my last.fm profile, that's how lazy I am. :) No particular order, or it will never get done.

mind.in.a.box - Memories

I had honestly forgotten the band for the past 15 years (not that they had been terribly active, mind). But this come back album is really strong. Super catchy melodies, dark humour and an extra layer of introspection, a few really punchy tracks, it's packed with great stuff. They don't shy away from their original futurepop sound, but update it without sounding gimmicky.
Beauty Queen Autopsy - Lotharia

Sexy but not cheap, witty but sincere, this album is also stylistically very rich.

Seeming - Worldburners EP

Seeming, man. They're incredible. This EP is a masterpiece, encompassing many genres. "Holy Fire" is one of the most beautiful and soul-stirring song I've ever heard, while "Light A Fire" is a wonderfully catchy and light-hearted number. The rendition of "The City Sleeps" reminds me a lot of Architect's Mine, in a very positive way.

Haujobb - Blendwerk

We didn't know what to expect of the new Haujobb but to expect the unexpected. They revealed a masterpiece of deceptively minimalist sound with powerful, angry vocals. Myer said in an interview he was inspired by Oliver Chesler aka The Horrorist for these. He is indeed emoting way more than usual, and the change is welcome and interesting. Haujobb's dry humour and meta commentary is still present and will make you grin. One would be hard pressed to find a new club stomper, as most of the album is of the slower and reflective sort. A very interesting evolution and a solid, innovative album. I've listened to it back to back many times upon its release, as each listen reveals more nuance.

Alva Noto - Xerrox vol.3

I wrote a few words about this album for I die : You Die. Go read if you haven't. :)

Architect  Sonic Area  Hologram - We Are The Alchemists

This one got a lot of play. It is far from a perfect album (the flow leaves to be desired, it feels like tracks have been tossed in there willy nilly) but it is superb nonetheless. The sound design is top-notch and the styles of the three involved blend very well while remaining clearly identifiable.

Beborn Beton - A Worthy Compensation

A thoroughly enjoyable synthpop album, with a few really impeccable songs.

Wychdoktor - Hexen

Tribal rhythmic noise with a pinch of dark ambient. I love the universe of horror and magic he's created.

IAMX - Metanoia

My favourite IAMX album. So good. It was also great seeing it live, where its energy seemed to multiply tenfold.
