Weekend in Leipzig and PMD :)

It's been a week, so I need to get this blog entry done.

Before/After :D

After a year of waiting, Clémentine and I packed light bags (two t shirt and knickers and a toothbrush, if you want to know) and went for a little trip to Leipzig for Planet Myer Day. We flew from CGD through Munich on Thursday. An hour-long flight, about half an hour stop and another 45 min flights and we were there. All went smoothly except for the part where Math forgot to book my tickets (my birthday gift last year) in my maiden name to match my passport and ID, so at each boarding I had to plead with the crew so they would let me on the plane.

Anyway, we had rented a flat in the Connewitz area. Very nice alternative area with lots of shops, cafés, and close to the venue. The apartment itself was very cosy but didn't have any internet connection. Crisis! I had to take a temporary plan on my phone, especially since we had made no plans for the free time we were having before the concert.

After a little internet panic, we went to explore the neighbourhood. It had been snowing, and the street were still all white in the evening. We passed lovely shops, cafés and bakeries, and a lot of pierced and neon haired people. We bought some infusion and snacks at the supermarket and then settled for a pint and dinner in a cosy bar with candles and (fake) mounted animal heads on the walls. Omg, food is so cheap, like half of what we pay in Paris. We went to bed quite early as we were both tired from our flight.

On Friday morning, we had breakfast in a nearby bakery, tended by adorable people. Then we walked to the centre via Karl Liebknecht Straße. We stopped in a café that used locally roasted beans, and had a currywurst with fries in a little booth. By the middle of the afternoon, I was getting pretty nervous because of the concert. I always do, but it was a bit stronger than usual, since I had been waiting for a year for this. We headed back to the apartment with the S Bahn and had a little rest.

 Architect

We arrived at the venue a little early. Just under the venue sign was a huge "refugees welcome" banner. :) As soon as we stepped inside, Daniel Myer came to greet me. What. I used to be so shocked that people at parties knew who I was when I was a somewhat known latex designer, but now that I'm just an internet rando... Anyway, that was so nice. :)

Clémentine and I had a couple of shots, I bought some merch and we waited next to the stage for the shows to start. Architect opened the evening, and Myer played songs from Mine along with Emese. The live rendition was brilliant, and I teared up a little during "Hummingbird". It was just too short. :)

Then Blac Kolor played a banging set and we danced our hearts out. I'm expecting his new EP with great anticipation. It's really the kind of thing I'm into at the moment. Black Nail Cabaret followed and gave a great performance. I like them although some songs can be hit or miss for me, and I enjoyed them live a great deal.

Klangstabil

Klangstabil opened with "Schattentanz" so the mood was set for something truly epic. Clémentine had gone to smoke outside during the intermission and had no chance coming back to the front as the venue started getting pretty pack and the crowd a bit wild. Boris kicked his sneakers when he came on stage. I have such strong feelings for performers playing barefoot. I find it moving, as if they want to be more connected, or more intimate. It was a great performance, very emotional. They played the updated versions of "Pay with friendship" and "Math & emotion" as they appear on their most recent release. The band seems to have a real following in Germany. Someone uploaded a video recording of "You may start".

Finally came Haujobb. As for the other artists, it was my first time seeing them live. I was honestly expecting to be disappointed as I am a huge fan and had very high expectations. But they were just absolutely perfect. Daniel Myer is one hell of a showman and has the audience in the palm of his hand. He spoke to the crowd a lot (and all in German, so I have no clue, but it seemed funny). Their set was quite similar to those they played in the US last year. I could use all the superlatives to describe their performance. Let's just say that I'm still drunk on happiness today, despite all the terrible events of these past few days.

Haujobb

Haujobb did two encores. My neck was clenching so hard from my taking photos for the whole evening, I could barely lift my head haha. *sob* So in the end, I'm not complaining about the overall length of the shows (I did watch Klangstabil mostly sitting down to rest a little). Clémentine said she had a great time and enjoyed every bands and Haujobb the most (natch). :)

I talked a bit more to Daniel after the show. He's just so sweet. I bribed him with coffee for bear hugs. (I have a pack of freshly ground David
Muñoz next to me right now and the smell is pretty intoxicating.)

I'd have enjoyed an afterparty, especially since the venue was roomy and nice. But no such luck, so we headed to the flat and raided the fridge for beer (isn't it nice, a rental flat with a fridge stocked with beer?) We went to bed pretty late and talked in the dark, as I used to do as a child when we had sleepovers. I had taken two valiums for my neck cramps, so I'm not sure I was very coherent though.

And then I fell out of bed at 9am and started editing the pictures from the shows. Too early, way to early.

We took our flight home in the afternoon and I'm happy to report that it all went down fine, healthwise. I have a better sense of my limits, so I can plan ahead with more confidence. I think I'm ready to tackle a somewhat bigger event (Resistanz is sure tempting, but I'm not sure I can afford it. Maybe Infest?)
