I'm back on tramadol. Blegh. The joint pain is just too bad without it, it keeps me up at night. I'll try to go with 25mg at night only, and occasionally some during the day, if needed. My stomach isn't feeling much better despite being off tramadol for over a month, so I guess it's not related.
Music
I've tried again to like black metal. I listened to Ghost Bath, after seeing it appear on one of the end of the year lists. I can tell it is well crafted, but definitely not for me.
I've been listening with more success to Prurient, Rabit, Jean Grae, Kammarheit, Fuck Buttons, Paradise Lost and Chelsea Wolfe. And a lot of Ontal (which has nothing to do with Qntal).
Watching
Haven just ended for good this week with a double episode. Honestly, I think it is good the show was put out of its misery. It had good moments and the characters were likeable enough but it jumped the shark several times and after a pretty bad couple of seasons didn't really pick up the pace. It was a satisfactory ending. Pretty conventional, but it tied loose ends neatly enough.
I've marathonned the second half of the first season of The Affair last night. It is really brilliant. The writing is very good. The characters are complex, none of them are really likeable (except maybe for Alison, played by Ruth Wilson). The most interesting part about the show so far is the fact that it is told by unreliable narrators (each episodes are divided in two parts, one focusing on one character, the second on the other, and while the stories cross a lot, facts are told with their point of view, which diverge sometimes in a very interesting fashion). It is pretty tough to watch from the beginning (it deals with the aftermath of the loss of a child, most notably, but also suicidal tendencies and self harm) and it doesn't get easier as the season progresses.
